Product Overview

What ORISO is, who it serves, and the problems it solves as a privacy-first online counseling platform.

Product: ORISO (Online Beratung) Category: Anonymous online counseling and live-chat platform Status: Production (multi-tenant, Kubernetes-deployed, GDPR-aligned) Source of truth: Frank & Nikunj huddle (2026-05-05), Figma flows, Keycloak realm, Spring Boot services.

1.1 What ORISO Is

ORISO is a multi-tenant online counseling platform that lets accredited counseling organizations offer text-based and live-chat counseling to clients anonymously, GDPR-correctly, and at hospital-grade privacy.

It is not a generic note-taking app. It is a regulated, privacy-first counseling product where:

  • A client can ask for help without giving their real name.
  • A counselor at a registered counseling center can pick up that request and chat in a secure, encrypted room.
  • A platform owner, tenant (regional cluster of organizations), and counselor admin all live in a clean, isolated hierarchy so one organization can never see another's data.

Think of it as "a hospital triage desk on the internet for counseling — but the patient never has to give their name, and the system is built to forget them as soon as they leave."

1.2 Core Purpose

GoalWhat it means in product terms
Anonymous helpClients enter with a generated pseudonym. No real identity is ever required.
Regulated trustEvery level (platform → tenant → counseling center) carries an enforceable Imprint, Data Policy Agreement, and GDPR Agreement.
Real-time conversationA live-chat queue (waiting room → counselor pickup → consented chat) backed by Matrix Synapse.
Hierarchical isolationOne tenant cannot see another tenant's data. One counseling center cannot see another counseling center's clients.
Disposable dataIf a client leaves the waiting room or closes the chat, their account and traces are wiped server-side within seconds to minutes.

1.3 Target Users

Primary users (people who use the app)

UserWho they are in the real worldWhy they use ORISO
ClientA person in distress (debt, family, addiction, health, etc.) seeking helpWants quick, anonymous, no-registration counseling
CounselorA trained counselor / advisor at a counseling center (e.g., Caritas Berlin)Picks up tickets from the live-chat waiting room and runs sessions
Counselor AdminThe lead at a single counseling centerManages counselors, configures the center's imprint/GDPR text, enables/disables live chat
Tenant AdminRegional umbrella organization (e.g., "Caritas Germany")Creates counseling centers under its tenant, signs the platform-tenant data policy agreement
Platform AdminThe ORISO platform operatorOnboards tenants, owns the master Imprint / GDPR / Data Policy templates, runs MFA-protected operations

Secondary users (people who reason about the system)

  • Developers (frontend / backend) building ORISO and integrating with Keycloak, Matrix, LiveKit.
  • Designers working on the live-chat onboarding, waiting-room and consent screens (see UI/UX).
  • Product managers / business stakeholders evaluating, pitching, or auditing the platform.
  • Security auditors running yearly external audits (a stated requirement after the 2026 incident).

1.4 Key Problems It Solves

The 'I don't want to register' problem

Most counseling tools force registration. ORISO lets a client enter the waiting room with just a generated pseudonym (e.g., "geschmeidiges Kanninchen Kim") and a server-issued cookie — no email, no phone, no real name.

The GDPR-cascade problem

Different organizations want different legal texts. ORISO uses inheritance: every counseling center inherits the Imprint, Data Policy and GDPR Agreement from its tenant (and ultimately from the platform), but can override them locally.

The multi-tenant isolation problem

Hospitals don't share patient lists. Tenants and counseling centers must not see each other. ORISO enforces this through Keycloak roles, tenant-scoped APIs, and per-center Matrix rooms.

The 'forget me' problem

If a client gives up in the waiting room, their pseudonymous user must be wiped, not archived. ORISO's design rule is "delete fast, archive never" — auto-delete on disconnect, encrypted-only message storage, scheduled purge of stale rooms.

The pin/zip-code routing problem

Different counselors serve different German postal-code regions and topics. ORISO routes inquiries by zip code (long term) and topic-attached live-chat links (short term) so a Berlin debt-counseling client lands on a Berlin debt counselor.

The 'live-chat off' UX problem

Hiding inactive features confuses counselors. ORISO instead shows the live-chat section in a deactivated state with a hint to enable it (so 95% of counselors who never use live chat aren't lost when the 5% turn it on).

1.5 What ORISO Is Not

To prevent confusion, the product does not:

  • Record audio/video of client sessions to build searchable transcripts (no AI note-taking; LiveKit handles WebRTC video, but recordings are out of scope).
  • Persist client identity past the session (no "user history" for clients).
  • Allow cross-tenant search, analytics, or reporting (isolation is enforced).
  • Run any service in dev mode in production (a hard rule after the 2026 Keycloak incident).
